June Adoptables

Each month, I host a Foster Photo Day as a free resource to help local fosters and rescues have access to professional imagery to help their pups be seen (and hopefully) adopted.

The goal is to give harder to adopt pups, such as the ones listed below, an edge in standing out among the millions of animals available for adoption.

These dogs are usually, but not always:

  • Older (usually 5 years of age or older)

  • Might have medical needs

  • Potentially have some kind of behavioral issues, like reactivity or needing to be the only pet

  • Are a restricted breed, like bully breeds

  • Are black in color (Black dogs are much less likely to get adopted in the shelter in a very common phenomenon called Black Dog Syndrome)

  • Or have just been overlooked for one reason or another

  • Have been in foster for a significant period of time; typically months, if not, years

Since the inception of this program back in October of 2021, we’ve photographed well over 200+ pups in foster across the Triangle through multiple rescues.

If you’d like to learn more about Foster Photo Day or register your own foster, you can do so here.

If you want to learn more about our Mission to help reduce animal overpopulation and homelessness in our state, read more about that here.

Without further ado, here are the adorable pups I had the pleasure to meet and photograph as part of our June Foster Photo Day! Feel free to share their profile or this post with anyone you know that might be looking to adopt.

MACIE - FREEDOM RIDE RESCUE

Macie is a sweet senior girl with a great appreciation for the simple things in life. She loves sleeping in her human's bed, sticking her head out the car window, sniffing in the yard, and eating food (including occasionally stealing people food - we are working on this!). She is housebroken, crate trained, leash trained, great with other dogs, and the best car ride buddy.

Macie is incredibly sweet and loves giving kisses and accepting affection from anyone. As soon as you start petting the top of her head, she immediately inches closer to you and just melts. Truly, she is the sweetest. She is estimated to be ten years old, but she says she doesn't feel a day over six. She is still active and has plenty of energy. Macie enjoys long walks and outings around town.

This girl is all beagle, meaning she can be vocal and likes to howl to let you know she is excited to see you, sad to see you go, found a smell she really likes, or wants to go outside. As a result, Macie is not a candidate for apartment living. She would be the perfect addition to a quiet-ish home where she would get to spend a lot of time with her people. Overall, she is an easygoing girl with lots of love to give and many years left of sniffing to do!

TANKINI - NESHAMA RESCUE

Adopt Tankini, a charming bulldog with a heart as big as her appetite! This lovable shadow will follow you everywhere - instant best friend! Tankini's drooly kisses are her way of showing affection, and her bulldog grooming needs are a small price to pay for such a devoted companion.

Tankini still has one more eye surgery to go, but that’s covered by Neshama Animal Rescue! If you're looking for a loyal friend who brings joy and drool to every moment, Tankini is the perfect match for you. Tankini would prefer a family who is familiar with the breed and her needs. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, HW-, and microchipped.

BAXTER - FREEDOM RIDE RESCUE

Baxter is the sweetest boy! As a senior dog, his energy and outside needs (long walks are not needed) are low, but he truly enjoys just rolling around in the grass and sitting in the backyard...as long as you're close. Baxter likes to be attached to you at all times. If you move, he moves right on with you. He insists on snuggles and constant love.

So, if you're someone who likes to sit on the couch with a furry companion, he's the dog for you! He will walk up to anyone and demand pets and no one can resist his charms. In true beagle fashion, he's quite stubborn.... he'll get up to move when he decides to! He's a great eater and will happily stare at you non-stop if you're trying to eat. He will cry when you leave the house but not for long and he will sing you a beautiful song of joy upon your return!

BLUE - FREEDOM RIDE RESCUE

Blue loves snuggling his people most of all. He wants to be with you on the couch and will take all the petting and scratching you can give. He's also highly food motivated which makes training fairly easy. He's crate-trained, house-trained, and good with cats. He wags his tail when he sees the household cats, but doesn't chase or bother them. His shelter test said he did great with dogs.

He also loves meeting new people and leans into them until they pet him. He loves to sleep in and be lazy, but is also excited to go on his walks. He happily goes into his crate at night and sleeps through the night. He also spends a few hours in his crate during the day to rest but is more often found lounging near his foster family. Blue is as sweet and perfect as they come, but his best features have to be his absolutely adorable smooshy face and snaggle tooth! He's a special boy who deserves a special home!

SANTANA - WAKEGOV PETS

Meet Santana, an incredible survivor! His journey hasn't been an easy one. He was found in a Walmart parking lot in critical condition, his life hanging by a thread. He was later diagnosed with Babesia, a serious tick-borne illness, and thankfully received the treatment needed and made an incredible recovery.

In his foster home, Santana has flourished. This boy is a cuddle enthusiast, always ready to soak up affection. And while cuddles are his top priority, he's also a big fan of treats and never misses an opportunity for a snack. Santana is crate trained and has made impressive strides with his potty training.

For households with children, Santana has done well in a foster home with respectful kids over age seven, but supervision between animals and kids is always recommended to ensure everyone's safety and comfort.

Santana is currently Heartworm positive, but Heartworms are not contagious and are treatable! Thanks to the incredible support of Friends of Wake County Animal Center, he has a $400 sponsorship towards his treatment.
