Pet Portrait Session: Jenn, Jeremy, & Eames

It’s always a special thing when another photographer asks you to photograph their family.

Jenn and I connected on Instagram at some point in early 2023. Both being in North Carolina (she’s on the coast with her studio, Crystal Coast Dog), Pet Photographers, and attendees of the very first Dog Photography Conference ever, Shutterhound, we had a lot in common and to talk about.

Jenn has been such an invaluable friend to me over the past year and a half. Not only, because she’s such a loving, kind, and genuine person, but also because we both are really, incredibly passionate about what we do and are always striving to push each other to be better.

Why I wanted to blog about Jenn’s session, though, is something that happens often with clients. Read on to understand what I mean.

Jenn’s husband, Jeremy, is a Pastor. With that, they send out a ton of Christmas cards, so each year, they hire a photographer to take photos of them and their pup(s).

Unfortunately, last year’s photos were by a photographer who didn’t know how to work with dogs. The pups were out of focus, not looking at the camera, and just generally disengaged.

What’s even more disheartening is that those photos were the last ones Jenn had of her senior Dane, Maddox, before he unexpectedly passed away earlier this year.

So, she knew going into this year’s photos that it was worth it to work with someone who specializes in Pet Photography. Her, Jeremy, and Eames made the three hour trip up to Raleigh for their session and I’m so glad they did.

I’ll let Jenn speak a bit about more about the experience and how she felt after her session:

“Having someone understand dog behavior and body language makes a huge difference. Joanne came equipped with all the noises and all the yummy treats. The session moved smoothly. Joanne was professional, thorough, and thoughtful. From start to finish. We even did a Zoom call to go over all our goals for the session as well as fact and personality traits about my dog. It wasn't just a portrait session, it was an experience. My heart is bursting with happiness at my gallery and I can't wait for printed products!”

The moral of this story, friends? Always hire someone who specializes in working with dogs especially if you want great photos of you and your pups together!

Now, I’ll quit chatting and let you enjoy all of the cuteness (my select favorites of course) from their session!
