December Adoptables

Each month, I host a Foster Photo Day as a free resource to help local fosters and rescues have access to professional imagery to help their pups be seen (and hopefully) adopted.

The goal is to give harder to adopt pups, such as the ones listed below, an edge in standing out among the millions of animals available for adoption.

These dogs are usually, but not always:

  • Older (usually 5 years of age or older)

  • Might have medical needs

  • Potentially have some kind of behavioral issues, like reactivity or needing to be the only pet

  • Are a restricted breed, like bully breeds

  • Are black in color (Black dogs are much less likely to get adopted in the shelter in a very common phenomenon called Black Dog Syndrome)

  • Or have just been overlooked for one reason or another

  • Have been in foster for a significant period of time; typically months, if not, years

Since the inception of this program back in October of 2021, we’ve photographed well over 200+ pups in foster across the Triangle through multiple rescues.

If you’d like to learn more about Foster Photo Day or register your own foster, you can do so here.

If you want to learn more about our Mission to help reduce animal overpopulation and homelessness in our state, read more about that here.

You can also support our Rescue Photography with a monetary contribution or pick up something for the pups off of our Rescue Photography Wishlist!

Without further ado, here are the adorable pups I had the pleasure to meet and photograph as part of our December Foster Photo Day! Feel free to share their profile or this post with anyone you know that might be looking to adopt.

DINERO - CHARLEY’S K9 RESCUE

Estimated to be three to four years old, dashing Dinero, is 56lbs and known best for his laid back personality and dashing good looks. You'll catch this fella prancing in the yard as he plays with toys and slowly takes in all the scenario. Dinero is very dog and kid friendly! He's also house and crate trained. Making him the perfect addition to your family. He loves his toys!

Here's what his amazing Foster Mom has to say about him:

After he eats, he comes to find foster Ma to give her a kiss to say “thanks, that was tasty”. He will also hold off on eating all day until foster Ma gets home from work because he doesn’t want to eat alone. He loves to snuggle up on the couch or in bed with his humans. Especially on super soft blankets. He will follow you to the bathroom if you leave the door open and wait patiently so you don’t feel lonely. He is polite at nail trims and bath time. He likes squeaky toys and bones. He likes to chase a ball but doesn’t totally understand how fetch works.

He loves playing with visitors, but he will settle down after his initial excitement and curl up next to his new friend. He loves to sunbathe in the fenced back yard, but (usually) comes running when you call. He gets along well with medium-large dogs. Small pups, cats, bunnies are a no-go for this guy.

He can’t meet people or dogs while on leash, but if you drop the leash he will roll over and show you his belly and wiggle around.

Dinero is in foster located in Raleigh, NC. He is current on all vaccines, neutered, and Heartworm negative.

TOMMY - LENDING PAWS A HAND

Tommy’s start in life was something no living being should ever endure. Born in a dirt yard with his mother chained to the ground, he came into this world under heart-wrenching conditions. His mother, bound and unable to move freely, did her best to bring her puppies to life, but elements slowly killed them off and the chain around her neck became a trap for Tommy, the last surviving she had. Tiny Tommy, still blind and helpless, became tangled in her chain shortly after being born and in a desperate attempt to free him, his mom did what she could: she chewed off one of his paws. He is now safe in a foster home and the vet is keeping a close eye on him as he grows to determine if he will need surgery on his leg. He is a happy go-lucky guy that truly loves everyone!

LUTHER - FREEDOM RIDE RESCUE

Meet Luther, a 7-year-old German Shepherd with a heart full of love and a longing for his forever home. After enduring neglect and tough living conditions that led to ear and skin infections, as well as a flea infestation, Luther's luck changed when Freedom Ride Rescue pulled him from the shelter just in time. Now, he's discovering what love and care really mean-and he's ready to share that with his new family!

Luther is a cuddle bug at heart. If you sit on the floor with him, he'll literally wrap his paws around you for a hug! He loves car rides and would be an ideal adventure buddy. But like a true Shepherd, he also knows how to wind down and relax in front of the TV. Incredibly smart and eager to learn, Luther responds well to training-especially if there's a treat involved!

While he's great with other dogs (he even lived with a Chihuahua), Luther would do best in a home without cats unless you're committed to putting in the training. He's shown some leash reactivity due to excitement but is not aggressive. During mealtimes, he should be fed separately from other dogs to manage mild resource guarding when he's excited about food. However, he's never shown any guarding behavior toward humans.

Luther is ready to be your loyal companion-whether that's exploring the outdoors or curling up at home. He'll thrive in a home that can continue his training and give him all the love he's missed out on. Could you be the one to give Luther his happily ever after?

LATTE - MITCHELL MILL ANIMAL RESCUE

Meet Latte! This good looking gentleman is ready for a permanent home. He is loving with people and will happily crawl into your lap! His adoption fee is $300

CHARLIE - ARCADIA ANIMAL RESCUE

Meet Charlie - a truly amazing companion!  Handsome fun loving, Charlie, somehow found himself in a rural overcrowded NC shelter. Through no fault of his own, was facing euthanasia just to free up kennel space.

Our rescue was asked to pull him and he went directly to a foster home.  Charlie has been a character for the foster mom. He is approximately eight years old and has been playful with the other male and female dogs he has been living with.  We do believe his is dog selective as he needs a slow introduction to others.  On walks, he is skiddish about meeting new people, he is likely guarding his foster mom.

Charlie is very quiet in the house and does not need a crate. He is house-trained as well.

We love this boy and want to see him find a great family. Charlie is fully vaccinated, neutered, and heartworm negative. Please contact Julie at 919 624 0059 or julie@arcadiarescue.org.

PUDDIN’ - WAKE GOV PETS

Sweet as puddin', this boy is true to his name! This cute guy came into foster and won everyone over. He is loving and playful, and so silly. He is still very much a puppy in energy level and play style. He loves hoarding toys on his bed, then falling asleep with them. He has excellent leash manners, and does not pull at all. He is crate and potty trained already.

He lives with three other dogs, and adores them all. He can be a bit much for some dogs, but he is learning to leave them alone when they have had enough. He already knows sit, and is working hard on place. He likes treats, but is also very affection/praise motivated.

His perfect person or family would be active and patient as he ages out of his puppy phase. He needs regular exercise, and then he joins his foster siblings for a lengthy nap. If you think Puddin' could be a good fit for you, please email his foster mom at hickeym08@gmail.com.
