Forget Me Not Session: Jasper

Rest in peace, Jasper.

I wish I could say that times as a pet photographer are always happy-go-lucky, but sometimes, they break your heart, too, especially when you know that the goodbye you are dreading is coming soon.

One of my previous clients, Zoe, contacted me about her senior pup, Jasper, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer and wasn’t doing well.

We decided to do the Forget Me Not Session at her Mom’s house since Jasper was living there with all of his dog friends during what Zoe calls his “doggie retirement.”

It was a perfect, golden afternoon and Jasper was pulling out all of his best tricks for the session (he didn’t seem to mind the treats either).

I’ll let Zoe tell you a bit more about him:

”He can best be described as a Get-Off-My-Lawn grumpy old man, a stealthy escape artist, a stubborn brick on walks, and a sleepy, smush-faced, butt-scratch-needy Jaspy.”

There were laughs and there were tears, but Jasper had the absolute best time as hopefully you can see from these photos. Zoe lost Jasper just a couple of days later.

In her inquiry, she said, “I decided his birthday is the same day as mine so we've celebrated together for the last four years.”

So, here’s to you Jasper. May you continue to refuse to go on walks, lay in your favorite spot on the deck in the sunshine, and eat an unlimited number of treatos across the rainbow bridge.
