February 2025 Adoptables
Each month, I host a Foster Photo Day as a free resource to help local fosters and rescues have access to professional imagery to help their pups be seen (and hopefully) adopted.
The goal is to give harder to adopt pups, such as the ones listed below, an edge in standing out among the millions of animals available for adoption.
These dogs are usually, but not always:
Older (usually 5 years of age or older)
Might have medical needs
Potentially have some kind of behavioral issues, like reactivity or needing to be the only pet
Are a restricted breed, like bully breeds
Are black in color (Black dogs are much less likely to get adopted in the shelter in a very common phenomenon called Black Dog Syndrome)
Or have just been overlooked for one reason or another
Have been in foster for a significant period of time; typically months, if not, years
Since the inception of this program back in October of 2021, we’ve photographed well over 200+ pups in foster across the Triangle through multiple rescues.
If you’d like to learn more about Foster Photo Day or register your own foster, you can do so here.
If you want to learn more about our Mission to help reduce animal overpopulation and homelessness in our state, read more about that here.
You can also support our Rescue Photography with a monetary contribution or pick up something for the pups off of our Rescue Photography Wishlist!
Without further ado, here are the adorable pups I had the pleasure to meet and photograph as part of our January Foster Photo Day! Feel free to share their profile or this post with anyone you know that might be looking to adopt.

ACCRA - CHARLEYS K9 RESCUE
One to two year old Accra is super dog friendly and learning to like her crate. Accra has loved humans of all sizes. This girl is super energetic, active, and wicked smart. Snacks are her love language as are human snuggles.
CYBIL - FREEDOM RIDE RESCUE
Meet Cybil! Cybil is the happiest and friendliest puppy you'll ever meet. She greets everyone with a wagging tail and lots of kisses. She loves other dogs and is always up for going out on the town on adventures. Some of her favorite things include her stuffys that she carries around with her, chewing on sticks, and sitting in your lap for pets (and snacks!). She is already potty-trained, leash-trained, and crate-trained. Cybil is the perfect puppy companion.
NICO - SECOND CHANCE PET ADOPTIONS
Hi, I’m Nico! I’m a senior guy who found myself at the shelter after my family could no
longer care for me. Thankfully, I was rescued by the kind people at Second Chance and
now I’m living in a foster home where I’m learning to trust and feel safe again.
I may be a bit older, but I’ve still got plenty of love to give. My perfect day involves
perusing the yard, lounging on comfy dog beds, enjoying a few tasty treats, and getting
all the ear scratches I can! I get excited when I see those treats coming my way! While
I’m well-mannered, I might have the occasional accident if my foster mom doesn’t catch
my signals when I need to go outside. I’m still working on my communication skills, but
I’m a quick learner!
I love car rides, though I do get a little nervous in new places or around unfamiliar
people. But with some patience and love, I warm up quickly. I get along well with the
four other dogs in my foster home—I’m more interested in sniffing around the yard than
playing, but I enjoy their company. I’d be just as happy as an only dog, though, if that’s
what you’re looking for. As for cats, I’m not sure yet, but I’m a gentle guy, so I think I
could be fine with the right introduction.
If you’re looking for a sweet, loving senior companion to join your family, I’d love to meet
you. Let’s make some new memories together!
GALENA - WAKEGOV PETS
Galena is a young girl currently in foster through Wake County Animal Center! Her bio will be updated soon.
BAXTER - FREEDOM RIDE RESCUE
Meet Baxter, the spry 10-year-old Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix. He’s a loving, smart little guy who, despite his Senior status, has a lot of extra “zing” in his step. He loves to explore outside, play with other dogs and bounce around the house. He's very friendly with kids and loves a good snuggle buddy. Baxter is a bit too obsessed with cats and would do best in a feline free home. He sleeps all night in his crate and is house trained.
Baxter loves to be with his people and would do best with a family who is home frequently, and willing to give him patience to build confidence to relax when he's left alone.
Baxter’s had a bit of a rough patch in the dental department — he's missing a few teeth and had a jaw injury, and his adorable hanging tongue is a testament to his charming, quirky personality. He loves treats and licking up wet food for meals.
His senior bloodwork came back clear, so aside from his little quirks, he’s healthy as a horse! Baxter is ready to spend the rest of his life with a loving new family.
Follow along with his foster mom on Instagram for more Baxter photos @catchandreleasedogs.
